The first thing that drew me to the store was the clothes. I was so relieved to find quality trendy clothing to fit the average size woman. I used to dread clothes shopping because I didn't know where to start or how to put outfits together. Their customer service approach was so new to me because most clothing stores provide none these days. Frankly I needed their help and enjoyed it. For your best experience be honest with the stylists about your preferences, your likes and dislikes. It will help them find the best options for you.
I want to start by stating that I love the clothing options at White House Black Market; I can always find something for any event there. However, the sales team there is a NIGHTMARE! It is to the point of it being an akward and uncomfortable shopping experience. The sales ladies act like your best friend and as though they know your personal style. I have gone into the dressing room to try on a few items while a sales associate has waited outside the dressing room the entire time while another went to grab more options of clothing that were not anything I would ever wear. I have had someone even give me an attitude when I didn't find anything I wanted. While I enjoy the clothes, I do not feel comfortable window shopping or stopping in there without feeling pressured to buy anything.
I determined what I wanted and then proceeded to the register and the other customer was behind me on line as well. We waited a few minutes hoping that someone would come out to assist us and ring up our intended purchases. There was a sales associate at the register with her back turned to us. I said excuse me can you help me and I said this three times, giving her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she didn't hear me. The other customer behind me also asked if we could get help. Then finally the sales associate turned around and said "I'm on the phone" in a disrespectful and derogatory tone of voice and tuned her back to us and ignored us. She didn't even say, Let me see if I can get the other associate to help. Both myself and the customer were completely frustrated at this point and had decided we were going to just leave and not purchase what we came in for. Suddenly the other associate came out from the back and rang us up. If I wasn't a client for the number of years that I have been to date since the establishment of WHBM and positive experience that I have have had in my Chicago store locations. I would have seriously walked out. I do not plan on returning to this store . The service was absolutely terrible. The Ann Arbor location in Briarwood was not that great either, but at least the sales associate was helpful to some degree but it was certainly not the superior experience I'm accustomed to in the Chicago stores. I don't intend on returning to the Livonia location and will certainly tell my other attorney friends to not waste there time. This is a perfect example of how a business can lose revenue/loss sales. I spend thousands of dollars each month at WHBM, but this has certainly left a bitter taste. My experience in the Michigan stores has not been that great to date, moreso awful. This certainly gives Michigan a bad wrap. What ever happened to good old fashioned customer service. It sounds like management has some opportunities to address and orienting their staff to the recipe for establishing excellent customer/client relationships, particularly in this location. There certainly are opportunities they should address and orient their staff of the true meaning of client/customer service. You never know who is a client or customer, so all should be treated the same, Remember a client is one who continues to come back/return to your business because they had a good/great experience, as well as the personal attention they received and the relationship they established with you. This is the most horrific shopping experience I have had in my entire life. I do plan to report this to corporate. Your loss.

I am a White House Black Market client. I recently moved from Chicago and went into the the WHBM store in Laurel Park Place Mall in Levonia, Michigan for the first time. When I went into the store I wasn't even acknowledged for the first 15 minutes while in the store. It was not even busy there and there was a total of two customers in the store including myself. This was on Wednesday Jan. 6, 2016 around 2:00 time, so no excuse for the horrific experience I encountered, as well as the other customer who was there at the same time as me. I literally had to ask for help and the sales associate didn't seem as if she was interested in helping.
I agree with the previous comment. WHBM offers amazing clothing that is great in quality. However, I hate shopping in the store because I feel attacked by the sales associates! They try to get you to buy a ton of things and will stuff your dressing room with dozens of pieces when you only want to get one or two things. They also get annoyed when you only decide to get one item. Immediately they ask what you're shopping for and what size you are, and then they start a fitting room. Tell them you are fine shopping on your own and that you would rather pick out your own clothes and they should back off. You need to be firm with them. Sometimes I just buy my clothes online to avoid the sales associates.
